New moons discovered orbiting Saturn

Just a quick news item. . . . Nine new moons around saturn have recently been announced by the Minor Planet Centre. The moons were not discovered by the Cassini probe, they are too far away from Saturn to be seen by the probes instruments. They were in fact discovered by ground based observations using the Subaru Telescope (8.2 m).

This bring the total number of known moons around Saturn to 56. More details on the Planetary Society Blog here and here. A full listing of Saturn's moons is here.
